Foodbank Burger

For some time now we’ve been looking to tie up with a local charity; recently we were made aware of the Wandsworth Foodbank and we really like what they’re doing to help those in crisis.

How the Wandsworth Foodbank works,

  1. Non-perishable food is donated by the public
  2. Volunteers sort and pack food into emergency food boxes
  3. Frontline care professionals such as doctors and social workers give foodbank vouchers to people in crisis
  4. Foodbank vouchers are exchanged for 3 days of food at a foodbank
  5. Foodbanks take time to listen and signpost clients to further support

At the moment the Wandsworth Foodbank has received plenty of support in terms of food and volunteers but they do need to raise more money to cover running costs. With this in mind we are going to launch the Foodbank Burger – 50p of every sale will be donated to the Wandsworth Foodbank.

Before we launch the burger though we need to decide on what it’s going to be… we want your suggestions! Please tweet your ideas to @benscanteen and use #wandsworthfoodbank or email ben@benscanteen.com

Birthdays & Engagements at the Canteen

Ever since we opened up Ben’s Canteen we’ve been luckily enough to host a whole bunch of awesome events including birthdays, engagement parties, charity dinners and even a tango dancing night.

This got us thinking about why people like to hire out the Canteen and here’s the reasons we came up with,

  • We offer good value set menus to fit your budget
  • We can also offer group discounts on drinks
  • Our food is interesting, where else our your friends going to experience an All Day Breakfast Scotch Egg?!
  • You can hire out all of the Canteen or just a section
  • We take bookings for drinks parties, it doesn’t have to be a full blown dinner, likewise you can have drinks, canapes and then a sit down dinner
  • We don’t charge hire fees
  • We’re just up from Clapham Junction so there isn’t really an excuse for anyone not to be able to get here
  • We can make bespoke music play lists from serious cheese to rocking beats
  • The Canteen is a cool little space and everyone here will work hard to make sure you have an awesome time

If you’d like to talk to us about venue hire for your party and your requirements then please call 020 7228 3260 or email ben@benscanteen.com We’d like to think our venue hire is one of the best options for parties in Battersea, Clapham, Wandsworth, South West London and beyond!

Here’s some recent feedback and one of the set menus we’ve put together…

Ben’s Canteen – The Weekend

This week we’ve been loving the sunshine and reflecting that if you want breakfast, lunch, brunch, dinner or just drinks around Clapham Junction, Wandsworth, Battersea or Clapham then St John’s Hill is a belter of a street for it.

Anyways, here’s what’s going down at the Canteen…

  • We’re now keeping our kitchen open all day on Saturday, normally we close it between 4 and 6pm but no longer.
  • We’re getting massively into Sipsmith’s Summer Cup, this genuine rival to Pimms is going to make your weekend an awesome one.
  • We run a super popular brunch but we wanted to spice it up some more. So, we’ve created a Bloody Mary menu - come and try it out this weekend.
  • On the subject of booze, we’ve never been so excited about a shelf, behold our Gin Shelf.
  • Ditch those Sunday blues with our  Sunday Roast. We serve it from 2pm every Sunday. Enjoy Roast Orkney Beef, Pork Belly or Roasted Chicken with roasties, cauliflower cheese and broccoli, greens, root veg mash and yorkies.
  • With an eye on next week, you should come and try out our new lunch menu – we’ve added a bunch of news salads, fish cakes and more.
  • Time and Leisure just nominated us as one of London’s best local restaurants, if you like us then would you be so terribly kind as to vote for us here?!
  • Also, Ben recently got interviewed by our friends at Le Cool, click here to read the interview.
  • To add to our British food, done well ethos and British beers we’ve added a selection of English wines (British wines means something else), including a cracking sparkling by Chapel Down. Come and run the rule over them this weekend and let us know what you think.
