Good times at Ben’s Canteen for August Bank Holiday Week

This week is all about good times, it’s very much Summer holiday season and this weekend is a Bank Holiday and Carnival.

We suggest you take it easy this week, if you really do have to work then work from home or go in late. Hit up the Canteen for some brunch action (and free WiFi); sweet corn fritters with avocado and bacon sound good to us as do fish cakes, a daily changing salad and a smoked salmon bagel with great coffee, smoothies and juices and, if you’re really kicking back, Bloody Mary’s. Oh, and if you’re hanging from too much good times we’ve got a mighty Full English for you. We serve brunch from 9am to 4pm.

Of course holidays are really all about partying into the night and we’re open all week to help you do exactly that. Headliners are,

Friday night is set to be huge and one of the foodie led parties of the summer, please note you need to buy your tickets in advance and online – click here for full details. Sunday and Monday will be lots of fun as we ditch our normal dinner menu in favour of a Caribbean inspired menu, including patties, rotis and jerk chicken – click here to see it in full.

The weekend at Ben’s Canteen

We hope you’ve recovered from the Jubilee because you have another big weekend ahead of you! There’s rugby, there’s a lot of football and there are all round good times to be had (sadly you will probably have to do without sunshine).

Here’s how we’re going to help make your life more awesome.

  • Euro 2012 – for those who can’t bear to miss the match we’ve launched a takeaway menu. For those of you who can live without seeing every minute of every match, we have a little dinner offer for you.
  • Talking of offers, if you opt to eat with us between 6&7pm then we’ll give you 2 courses for £20 and a free glass of wine. Click here for full details and and to book.
  • Now that ‘summer’ has arrived we’ve replaced our Sunday roasts with a weekly Sunday BBQ. Don’t worry though it’s an indoor affair. Served from 2-8pm, click here to see the menu.
  • BBQ make us think of Dads… next Sunday is Father’s Day. Book in for brunch or indeed BBQ.
  • Whilst we favour British food here at the Canteen we’re taking a break from it for Independence Day and running an awesome pop-up dinner. Full details here.
  • Going back to being British – Royal Ascot is coming up, set yourself up for a big day at the races with Eggs Benny and Bucks Fizz.
  • Don’t forget that we don’t just do weekend brunch – we serve it everyday from 9am to 4pm (alongside a lunch menu) and we’re also open for dinner 7 nights a week.

Friday Night at the Canteen

Wow, what a beautiful day it’s been, summer isn’t dead yet! We’ve been busy all day and now there’s a nice crowd lapping up the dipping sun, having London Lagers and starting to think about small plates.

On that note, we’d push you towards our flat breads and homemade dips – the bread is awesome and the dips are super tasty. The chorizo and manchego is a no brainer for early evening snacking as are the chilli and lime prawns and harissa chicken skewers. If you’re looking for something different and a serious taste sensation then you have to take on the truffled egg toast.

Last night, the gammon, egg and chips went down a storm as did the moules and actually both sold out but fear not we’ve got a fresh batch today, so come and get stuck in.

With an eye on the weekend, we’ve added bacon and egg pie to our brunch menu – very Australian and very tasty. We’ve also got Sunday Pie Night, it kicks off at 6pm and it’s gonna be great.
