Christmas Eve at Ben’s Canteen

Ah Christmas Eve, we love it, there is a ‘end of term’ feeling, you’ve finished work and good times lie ahead (and the fact that your family are likely to drive you mad at some stage just adds to the end of school feeling).

Crimbo Eve is also an awesome time to catch up with mates and with that in mind we’re doing brunch, dinner and lots of drinks, including our Winter Pimms Punch.

Christmas Eve at Ben's Canteen

Brunch will be kicking off at 9am, so come in for a Big Ben (our mighty Full English), Eggs Benedict, our awesome BC Burger, that’s topped with homemade corned beef to make it extra British, and plenty more including Bloody Marys and, as it’s Christmas Eve, some fizz.

We’ll be serving our new winter menu with our recently launched beer matching options from 6pm until 8pm. The bar will be open all night and after 8pm we’ll have nibbles (such as pork pies) and a lovely winter Oxtail stew.

Plus @jimmyrhodes83 will be hosting, so you’re in for some serious Christmas cheer – he is definitely Captain Christmas in the Canteen.

Carb up for our Free Running Club

At 7pm tonight we’re starting our free running club – meet at the Canteen and our personal trainer friend will take you out for a gentle run around the Commons. We will give everybody who takes part a free drink (you deserve it). Rumour has it that Ben will be taking part – he hasn’t done any exercise for months so watching him wheeze about will be amusing.

With running in mind you also deserve a good lunch – eat in or takeaway. We’ve got great looking chargrilled veggie and goats cheese sarnies as well as butternut squash soup. We’ve also got scotch eggs and pork pies to go alongside an amazing array of treats from The Dessert Deli and The Flour Station.Treats

Get munching on one of those whilst perusing a book from our free book exchange.

With an eye on the Bank Holiday weekend, we’ll be doing brunch Sat-Mon, with a full dinner service on Saturday night and then we’ll be cooking tapas dishes on our barside grills on Sunday and Monday night together with other grazing options such as a Hamish Johnston cheeseboard.

Oh and a final bit of news for you, we’ve literally just had a new delivery from Mrs King’s Pork Pies – so come and grab one! If you haven’t tried a Pork and Stilton one yet then you are genuinely missing out on one of life’s true pleasures.

Tuesday Dinner and Tapas Preview

Before we get onto tonight’s dinner (which features a new dish) we just wanted to confirm the rumours that Brewed Boy will be manning the contact grill tomorrow night and serving up some tasty tapas. Look out for grilled chorizo and manchego, black pudding and quail’s egg, aubergine caponata with goat’s cheese on toast and a herb tortilla. We’ll also be serving Mrs King’s pork pies and scotch eggs alongside a full dinner menu.

As for tonight, we’re trying out linguine with fire roasted peppers, vine tomatoes and basil. By the way, we had a couple of young ladies try our hake dish last night and they gave it a 100% satisfaction rating. Will you agree with them?
