Royal Ascot Brunches

Royal Ascot is an awesome event, yes there is some racing but really it’s all about having a massive day out – getting dressed up and letting loose. We think you should start your day in style with brunch at Ben’s Canteen before you join the masses at Clapham Junction.

With this in mind we’re offering an Ascot Special – Eggs Benedict and a Glass of Bucks Fizz for £12. This will be available every day of Royal Ascot. If you’d like to book a table then please click here.

Of course we’re also offering the rest of our brunch menu so, for example, you can set yourself up for a big day with the Big Ben (our epic Full English).

Ben's Canteen BrunchYou might also want to hit up the Canteen post Ascot. We serve dinner and Pimms (if you can drink any more of it!) from 6pm every night.

Ben’s Canteen – The Weekend

This week we’ve been loving the sunshine and reflecting that if you want breakfast, lunch, brunch, dinner or just drinks around Clapham Junction, Wandsworth, Battersea or Clapham then St John’s Hill is a belter of a street for it.

Anyways, here’s what’s going down at the Canteen…

  • We’re now keeping our kitchen open all day on Saturday, normally we close it between 4 and 6pm but no longer.
  • We’re getting massively into Sipsmith’s Summer Cup, this genuine rival to Pimms is going to make your weekend an awesome one.
  • We run a super popular brunch but we wanted to spice it up some more. So, we’ve created a Bloody Mary menu - come and try it out this weekend.
  • On the subject of booze, we’ve never been so excited about a shelf, behold our Gin Shelf.
  • Ditch those Sunday blues with our  Sunday Roast. We serve it from 2pm every Sunday. Enjoy Roast Orkney Beef, Pork Belly or Roasted Chicken with roasties, cauliflower cheese and broccoli, greens, root veg mash and yorkies.
  • With an eye on next week, you should come and try out our new lunch menu – we’ve added a bunch of news salads, fish cakes and more.
  • Time and Leisure just nominated us as one of London’s best local restaurants, if you like us then would you be so terribly kind as to vote for us here?!
  • Also, Ben recently got interviewed by our friends at Le Cool, click here to read the interview.
  • To add to our British food, done well ethos and British beers we’ve added a selection of English wines (British wines means something else), including a cracking sparkling by Chapel Down. Come and run the rule over them this weekend and let us know what you think.

Ben’s Canteen – The Weekender

This week has been all about The Fabulous Feast on St John’s Hill – and this weekend sees the street’s celebration of food and drink go up another gear with all sorts of events and activities taking place, including a bunch of pop-up stalls.

Here’s what’s going down at the Canteen…

  • We’re going to keep our kitchen open all day on Saturday, normally we close it between 4 and 6pm but not for The Fabulous Feast.
  • We run a super popular brunch but we wanted to spice it up some more. So, we’ve created a Bloody Mary menu - come and try it out this weekend.

  • Sunday night, at 8pm, will see Murderous Cupcakes in the Canteen, we think it’s going to be fun, you should come.
  • We’re getting massively into Sipsmith’s Summer Cup, this genuine rival to Pimms is making us feel all summery in lieu of any actual sun.

Sipsmith Summer Cup at Ben’s Canteen

Ok we can’t deliver you sunshine but we can bring you Summer Cup from the good people at Sipsmith.

Summer Cup at Ben's CanteenHere’s what they say about Summer Cup…

“First we distill our award winning London Dry Gin on our copper still, which is, and we’re a little overexcited about this, the first such still in London since 1820. Then, inspired by the quintessentially English ‘cups’ of of the 1800s, we blend it with a host of fabulous summery fruits and flavours including infusions of Earl Grey tea, Lemon Verbena and Cucumber. The natural cloudiness comes from the real ingredients that we infuse to give our summer cup its wonderful character and depth of flavour. Aromatic yet dry, it’s perfect for marrying with a mixer in the sun.

We think it’s a belter of a drink, especially when paired with our homemade lemonade. It’s a true rival to Pimms and @jimmyrhodes83 can’t wait to serve it to you.

A night for Pimms and Mojitos

Well this is most unusual, it’s been a lovely day, all day! This calls for Pimms and Mojitos, we’ve actually spent some of this afternoon preparing them so pop in and grab one, in fact somebody literally just ordered two, so come and join them.

MojitosThis weather though has caught us out a bit on the menu front… we had decided that winter was firmly here so we added Wild Boar and Apple Sausages and a Plum Crumble and then of course it turned out to be hot, hot, hot. However, if that’s why it’s a nice day then we’re happy to take one for the team and actually they are so tasty they’re worth ordering regardless of the temperature. By the way, the bangers are from Dove, our favourite butcher in the local area.

All of our starters can be had as bar snacks or of course you can forget food and just prop up our bar/grab a seat upfront and get stuck into London Lager, Junction Ale or a glass of Pimms.
