Sipsmith Summer Cup at Ben’s Canteen

Ok we can’t deliver you sunshine but we can bring you Summer Cup from the good people at Sipsmith.

Summer Cup at Ben's CanteenHere’s what they say about Summer Cup…

“First we distill our award winning London Dry Gin on our copper still, which is, and we’re a little overexcited about this, the first such still in London since 1820. Then, inspired by the quintessentially English ‘cups’ of of the 1800s, we blend it with a host of fabulous summery fruits and flavours including infusions of Earl Grey tea, Lemon Verbena and Cucumber. The natural cloudiness comes from the real ingredients that we infuse to give our summer cup its wonderful character and depth of flavour. Aromatic yet dry, it’s perfect for marrying with a mixer in the sun.

We think it’s a belter of a drink, especially when paired with our homemade lemonade. It’s a true rival to Pimms and @jimmyrhodes83 can’t wait to serve it to you.

Christmas Eve at Ben’s Canteen

Ah Christmas Eve, we love it, there is a ‘end of term’ feeling, you’ve finished work and good times lie ahead (and the fact that your family are likely to drive you mad at some stage just adds to the end of school feeling).

Crimbo Eve is also an awesome time to catch up with mates and with that in mind we’re doing brunch, dinner and lots of drinks, including our Winter Pimms Punch.

Christmas Eve at Ben's Canteen

Brunch will be kicking off at 9am, so come in for a Big Ben (our mighty Full English), Eggs Benedict, our awesome BC Burger, that’s topped with homemade corned beef to make it extra British, and plenty more including Bloody Marys and, as it’s Christmas Eve, some fizz.

We’ll be serving our new winter menu with our recently launched beer matching options from 6pm until 8pm. The bar will be open all night and after 8pm we’ll have nibbles (such as pork pies) and a lovely winter Oxtail stew.

Plus @jimmyrhodes83 will be hosting, so you’re in for some serious Christmas cheer – he is definitely Captain Christmas in the Canteen.

Pulled Pork Pop Up at Dove, Northcote Road

We’re delighted to announce that we will be doing another pulled pork pop up at Dove, the butcher, and one of our hero suppliers, on Northcote Road on Saturday (12th November)

Dove, the butcherOur awesome Mon-Fri daytime duo of @brewedboy and @jimmyrhodes83 are prepping the pulled pork and slaw right now,

Pig Smoking

and we will be heading down to serve up some amazing pulled pork baps from about 11am. They reckon that the pulled pork is going to be even tastier than last week as they’ve tweaked the recipe again.

Obviously back at the Canteen we will still be serving our new brunch menu, last week was again hugely busy with our homemade boston baked beans going down a storm (part of our mighty Full English) and of course we served a lot of Eggs Benedict (The Flour Station English muffins we use make this such a winner). Not a lot of fruit bowls were consumed which suggests we were mainly saving people from hangovers! We are looking to evolve our brunch menu, so if you have any suggestions then do let us know.

Meet Rimmy

Rimmy are Rob (@brewedboy) and Jimmy (@jimmyrhodes83) and they run the cafe element of the Canteen.

Ben's Canteen - the Cafe

Every day, Monday to Friday, from 8am, they serve up a daily changing menu. All of it is cooked and served by them with a whole lot of love.

To get you started in the morning they normally offer porridge, granola, the best scrambled eggs in South West (if not all of) London, cracking bacon/sausage and eggs baps and New York style waffles with maple syrup. These are served with Square Mile Coffee and Teapigs Tea, breakfast in these parts really doesn’t come better than this.

As we get to lunch Rimmy do fresh sandwiches, made to order, one meaty and one veggie and they often do specials (Pulled Pork and Sloppy Joes spring to mind). They also make a fresh salad and soup, plus there are pies from the brilliant @mypie1. It’s all rather superior to the supermarket and can be eaten in or taken away.

Once tea time comes around they keep you going with treats such as carrot cake and brownies from The Dessert Deli and as well as lovely tea and coffee they have cracking lemonades and other soft drinks from Luscombe, oh and their hot chocolate is immense.

Rob used to run his own, highly acclaimed, coffee cart in Soho whilst Jimmy is part of the super tasty Churros Bros – Rimmy know what quality is.

We’re often a modest bunch at the Canteen but when it comes to our daytime cafe, we have to say we are brilliant. Come and check us out and say hi to Rimmy.

By the way, the boys at the moment are taking part in Movember – they don’t always look this scary!

Pulled Pork Pop Up on Northcote Road

We’re delighted to announce that we will be doing another pulled pork pop up at Dove, the butcher, and one of our hero suppliers, on Northcote Road on Saturday (5th November)

Dove, the butcherOur awesome Mon-Fri daytime duo of @brewedboy and @jimmyrhodes83 are prepping the pulled pork and slaw right now and we will be heading down to serve up some amazing pulled pork baps from about 11am. They reckon that the pulled pork is going to be even tastier than last week as they’ve tweaked the recipe a touch.

Last week we sold out very quickly, we’ve got more this time but don’t hang about, get down to Dove early.

Obviously back at the Canteen we will still be serving our new brunch menu, last week was epicly busy with our homemade boston baked beans going down a storm (part of our mighty Full English) and of course we served a lot of Eggs Benedict (The Flour Station English muffins we use make this such a winner). Apparently brunch even attracted some celebrity action last week, so pop in for potential star gazing.

New York Style Waffles

Our way of being the best cafe in Battersea (and certainly beyond) is through constant innovation and super tasty, quality food.

Today @jimmyrhodes83 and @brewedboy have come up with two new tasty additions to our daytime menu,

  • Porridge (eat in or takeaway)
  • New York style Waffles with Maple Syrup

WafflesWe’ve also got loads of other tasty bites for you from fresh sandwiches (chicken and avocado and tomato, mozarella and basil on flatbread) to a classic caesar salad to pies (from the brilliant @mypie1) to a chilli, orange and carrot soup to huge range of brekkie options and treats (including awesome @thedessertdeli carrot cake).

Northcote Road Pop Up

Saturday (29th October) isn’t just about our awesome new brunch menu… we’re delighted to announce that we will also be doing a pop up at Dove, the butcher, and one of our hero suppliers, on Northcote Road.

Dove, the butcherOur awesome daytime duo of @brewedboy and @jimmyrhodes83 will be heading down to serve up some amazing pulled pork baps. They have spent an awful long time planning how to make the pulled pork super delicious and they’re confident that they are gonna amaze the people of Northcote Road and show ‘em how tasty we are on St John’s Hill.

It’s going to be immense, so make sure you pop down and say hi to the boys. Jimmy does give autographs.
