This week we’ve been getting rather excited about the Halloween Hell Night Food Party we’re running with our favourite food blogger Noshable. The event is on the 31st October and we’re doing a £30 set menu that includes a free cocktail – check out the menu and full details here.

Below is a little list of what’s going down over the weekend and coming up…

  • We have a lot of bookings this weekend, so if you want a table for dinner then it’s probably best to book in early – and take advantage of some extra value; reserve a table between 6 & 7pm and you can claim 2 courses for £20 and a free glass of wine.

When, last week, we were voted as Best Local Restaurant in the Time & Leisure Food and Drink Awards we said that we wanted to use this as a spur to deliver all the developments we have in the pipeline. It’s been a week for high fiving in the Canteen as on Monday we got the exciting news that we had been voted as Best Local Restaurant in the Time & Leisure Food and Drink Awards – good times! It’s great to be recognised for the hard work that has gone in but really it’s the people, i.e. you our lovely customers, who make the Canteen what it is and give us the drive to get better. We bloody luv the weekend! Come and chill on the Hill with us to find out why – although we can’t promise it will be as lively as last Sunday – the St John’s Hill Festival was brilliant and it was great to see the street buzzing with so many people. We’d love if it inspired more people to set up shop here (by the way we think the new Thai place opens this weekend, a very welcome addition to the Hill).

This weekend is gonna be a big one as it’s the St John’s Hill Festival! From 11am to 5pm there will be stalls, dancers, bands and a whole lot more (including our Sipsmith Bar that will be dispensing top notch G&T’s, Bloody Mary’s and Summer Cup Cupcakes). This Sunday at the Canteen

This Sunday is going to be fun.

We’ve got the St John’s Hill Festival going on which will see the street filled with stalls, dancing and entertainment. For the event we’re teaming up with Sipsmith and setting up a stall with their top notch Gin & Tonics whilst Ashlaigh will be cooking up Summer Cup Cupcakes. By the way, make sure you take part in the raffle – there will be just one winner but it’s a mega prize that includes a free dinner at every restaurant on the Hill – buy your tickets at the bar.

Of course we’ve also got brunch, starting from 9am, normally the kitchen would close at 4pm (until dinner at 6pm) but we’ll be serving all day on Sunday. That means you can kick back with a lovely Square Mile coffee, have a Bloody Mary and treat yourself to some lovely munch such as Eggs Benedict, our huge Full English or one of our newer brunch items such as Huevos Rancheros.

Now we know it’s a Sunday and that can mean the Sunday Blues start to creep in – to try and combat this we’ve started the Sunday Night Saver. Join us for dinner from 6pm and get stuck into the epic BC Burger or any of our burgers and sandwiches (French Dip, Chicken Burger, Po Boy, Mushroom Burger or the Pulled Pork Bap) and their accompaniments for a flat tenner. Oh also, it’s Happy Hour from 5-7pm… that should help keep the blues away a little.

Good times at Ben’s Canteen for August Bank Holiday Week

This week is all about good times, it’s very much Summer holiday season and this weekend is a Bank Holiday and Carnival.

We suggest you take it easy this week, if you really do have to work then work from home or go in late. Hit up the Canteen for some brunch action (and free WiFi); sweet corn fritters with avocado and bacon sound good to us as do fish cakes, a daily changing salad and a smoked salmon bagel with great coffee, smoothies and juices and, if you’re really kicking back, Bloody Mary’s. Oh, and if you’re hanging from too much good times we’ve got a mighty Full English for you. We serve brunch from 9am to 4pm.

Of course holidays are really all about partying into the night and we’re open all week to help you do exactly that. Headliners are,

Friday night is set to be huge and one of the foodie led parties of the summer, please note you need to buy your tickets in advance and online – click here for full details.
