Canteen Weekender

When, last week, we were voted as Best Local Restaurant in the Time & Leisure Food and Drink Awards we said that we wanted to use this as a spur to deliver all the developments we have in the pipeline. So, this week we were delighted to unveil our new cocktail list – come and try it out this weekend.

Below is a little list of what’s going down over the weekend and coming up…

  • We have a lot of bookings this weekend, so if you want a table for dinner then it’s probably best to book in early – and take advantage of some extra value; reserve a table between 6 & 7pm and you can claim 2 courses for £20 and a free glass of wine.
  • We also have another little offer for you; we recently launched the Sunday Night Saver - get any of our burgers or sandwiches for a tenner.
  • When you pop in during the evening, you need to indulge in our dedicated chip menu - the chilli cheese chips are the staff favourite.
  • You should definitely get involved in our new cocktail menu – give the Bacon Bourbon Old Fashioned a go, it’s pretty epic.
  • Happy Hour - join us for good times and cheaper drinkies from 5-7pm daily.
  • Yikes, it’s time to think about booking your Christmas party. We’ve just launched our Christmas menus, click here to check them out. We’re doing a set Christmas Lunch menu for £15 per person.
  • We run SW London’s busiest and best brunch, starting at 9am each day.
  • Come and check out the new brunch menu, we’ve added French Toast, Huveos Rancheros and a Smoked Salmon Bagel amongst other things.
  • Reckon you’re a bit crafty? You should come to the Crafty Pint workshop on the 8th October – design and keep your own Tote bag.
  • On the crafty front, check out the Colporter pop-up - leave the Canteen with a full tum and some awesome pieces for your home.
  • Oh, you should also check out our new bar snack, beef jerky from Billy Franks. The cheeseburger flavour is awesome as is the BBQ and the Holy Fuck Sauce (from The Rib Man) flavour.

This week we had our first birthday and we’re super grateful to everybody who came down and celebrated with us. The year has flown by, thanks for coming along on the journey with us (and for enduring a few bumps along the way) and we hope you’ll keep hanging out with us – we’ve got loads of things planned. Here at the Canteen we absolutely love chips… so when we were putting our new dinner menu together we thought, hello this is a rather good opportunity to indulge our love… eventually this culminated in the Ben’s Canteen Chip Menu 1.0

Chilli Cheese Chips

On the chip menu we have,

  • Chilli Cheese Chips, as pictured above. These are the current staff favourite, a bowl of these with a beer is dynamite. Please note, we top the chips with chilli, as in con carne, not raw chilli or chilli flakes as some people fear.
  • Chips n’ Gravy, not just for Northerners. A bit dirty and mega delish.
  • Nicky’s Chicken Salt Chips – a bit of a Kiwi thing apparently. So very moreish, we challenge you to only eat one of these.
  • Hand Cut Chips – classic and always good with tommy k or a bit of mayo.
  • Sweet Potato Chips – hand cut and proving to be a big hit.

But we don’t want to stop here, in time we want to expand our chip menu. What else would you like to see? We’ve heard rumours that Canadians like gravy and cheese rinds with theirs?
